Search Query - How To Search Tips

The page assumes you've turned Indexing Service ON.  Here's some ideas on how to use it to find what you're looking for.

FINDING FILES by Filename:
Query preceded with @filename or #filename -
Note that wildcards in conjunction with these keywords may produce different results. @filename will be faster, but may not honor all your wildcards; #filename honors all wildcards, but may take longer to complete.

If you know any part of the filename you are looking for, surround the part you are sure about with asterisk's as appropriate. For example, if the filename has "jim" in it:

#filename *jim*

But, you may too many results. It's best to limit the search as best you can. For example, if you are looking for a Word Document whose title includes jim:

#filename *jim*.doc

You can use boolean operators with the #filename keyword. For example, if you want to find files with jim in the name, but not with jimmy:

#filename *jim* and not #filename *jimmy*
